The Legion Hall was extensively refurbished in the early 1980's including a new brick front elevation. A blacksmith's forge known as Lingoods stood on a site opposite to the hall. It was one of four which existed over a period of years in various places in the town. There was one behind the Chequers Public House, another in Byford's yard at the other end of the High Street and another in Eastwood Road.
The white fronted cottages in Church Street which back onto the Parish Church were built in 1850. Having fallen into disrepair they were restored in the 1960's and are now occupied by a jewellers and various commercial businesses.
Wearn Cottages opposite, also in Church Street, are 17th century or earlier with later alterations and additions. They were completely restored in 1988/89 and are in use as offices.
