In Crown Hill at the top opposite the Public Conveniences (opened in 1932) you will find the site of the old Bingo Hall (now a block of flats called Crown Heights). Then on the bend is the Congregational Church (now United Reform) and just past that the site of the old Rayleigh Gas Works (by the Jehovah’s Witness Hall) and then the Dutch Cottage. Further along once stood Sweeps Row (demolished circa 1930) and finally the Railway Station which opened in 1889.

The most prestigious building on London Hill is the Roman Catholic Church known as `Our Lady of Ransom' opened in 1934. At the top of the hill, next to the Conservative Club, a new three storey block of offices and flats was completed in 2003 and is known as The Forge.
