Further down the High Street on the West side stood the Chequers Public House. It had a pleasant archway which allowed access to a row of cottages behind the pub. In the summer months their gardens were a blaze of colour.

Adjacent to the Chequers was a milliners with a Georgian style window now preserved in the Museum in the Mill. Next to the milliners was a we!l known meat and delicatessen shop of Parrs.
On the south side of the Chequers stood Hinksman's Garage which was destroyed by fire in the late 1960's.
