These cottages are probably of 18th century origin and were renovated in the early 1980's. They are on the site of dwellings once inhabited by the estate workers in the 1400's employed by Sir John Keeper of the King's Park.
Both in Norman times and later, Kings and Queens of England were very interested in the development of forests and could acquire any land for this purpose. They would convert the land into parks and chases in order to pursue their sport of hunting, hence the names of roads to this day, ie: The Chase and Chaseside. So keen were they to develop forests that Henry III signed a Charter which led to some control of this practice.
